While flipping through my journal recently, I stumbled upon a list of questions I honestly don’t even remember writing. It was titled: "Reminders I've Needed From The Spirit This Month"
Turns out, they're just as relevant now as they must have been then.
And the thing about all of these questions is that they address areas that can so quickly become footholds for the enemy to gain ground if I'm not keeping them in check and intentionally turning back to the Lord.
Thought I'd share here in case anyone else could use some heart-level prompts to see what areas your eyes are fixed on Jesus and what areas you need to turn back yet again and walk with the Spirit so that then you will not gratify the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).
*Notice the command part in that verse is walking with the Spirit and then the God's promise side is you won't gratify the flesh. I get this out of whack all the time and fall into relying on myself to get it right and pull up my bootstraps and be better, even though that's not what God in his grace is asking.
1. What are you filling your mind with?
- Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalm 34:8
2. Are you being judgmental or pointing the finger?
- Pray for them instead. And then pray for yourself about that area too.
3. What speech are you modeling?
- Everyone should be quick to listen,
slow to speak and slow to become angry.
James 1:19
4. Do you care more about others opinions or about God's opinion?
- Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Galatians 1:10
5. Are you trying to escape for "self-care"?
- Or have you found comfort in the Lord?
